Local indie rock band New Moons will release a new single titled “The Well” on Friday, Feb. 21.

After working on writing and self-producing new music during the pandemic, “The Well” is the first single released by New Moons since 2021’s The Hole.

“The song asks the listener to reflect on how they treat other people and warns about harboring hate for your fellow man,” the band says in a press release.

Beginning with a slow guitar riff reminiscent of The Smashing Pumpkins, frontman Curtis Dressman sings over a groovy rock beat laid down by drummer Alex Drews and bassist Tom Dressman.

“The Well refers to the many excuses one might give for acting the way they do,” the band says.

As for the rest of the album and singles to follow, the band utilizes classic mythical figures such as trolls, vampires, and outlaws to criticize modern humanity.

The band previously released debut album Glass Planet in 2015 and an EP entitled Blood in the Waves in 2018.

A series of singles are planned for release throughout the year. “The Well” will be available on all streaming platforms Feb. 21.
