Over 20 years ago, a friend of local Cincinnati musician Dan Phillips (commonly known as Zapruder Point) happened to have a show the day after Valentine’s Day. Dubbed “The Love Hangover,” the event had several solo musicians perform in pairs, each singing songs about the power of love, or how it has no power at all.

“To my mind, the ‘love/anti-love’ theme is kind of incidental,” Phillips says. “Just a good excuse to celebrate great songs with a rotating mix of artists.”

Now in its fourth year, The Love Hangover will be at The Loon Wine Bar this Saturday at 8 p.m.

Each solo musician is paired up with another to perform five love (or anti-love) songs each. Phillips says he is in “awe” of all the talent in this town, and that it’s “fun to encourage loners like me to pair up with others just to see what might happen.”

Between the sets, emcee Ryan Hall will be giving Loveline-style relationship advice, as well as sharing embarrassingly hilarious dating stories. That isn’t the only treat in store for the night; Hall will also be picking the order of acts at random. “Love is such a broad topic, you never know what you might hear, and that anticipation is part of the fun,” Phillips said.

Duos slated to perform include Rachel Mousie and Porter Fitch, Sonya Moomaw and Autumn Rinaldi, Stick and Bindle, Jacob Perez and Elijah Batson and Cleveland band The Strangers. Boasting instruments such as piano, electric and acoustic guitar, cello and harmonious singing, each tune ranges from “sweet or bitter, sincere or ironic, uplifting or sad,” as stated by Phillips.

Tickets are $10 and available for purchase at theloonwinebar.com, or $12 at the door.

Whether you’re there for a celebration of love or to soothe your broken heart, The Love Hangover has got you covered.
